4Th Africa Region Conference or the International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology

Cross-Cultural Pyschology: African Perspectives
Date:
August 2, 2009 - August 6, 2009
Venue:
The University of Buea

Buea, AL

In brief, the scientific program will include a Pre-Conference for Young Scholars and Graduate Students, training workshops, an opening ceremony, a Presidential address, invited keynote addresses, a roundtable discussion, symposia, and poster sessions. Most scientific events will be discussion oriented. A roundtable of targeted senior voices from emic and etic positions by scholars from the South and North will critique key facets of cross-cultural research in psychology tailored to cross-fertilize perspectives and upgrade skills, give insight to junior scholars, and advance African cross-cultural research efforts in particular and international psychology in general.

Training workshops will bring junior scholars into a series of innovative events:
1) a symposium on graduate studies in psychology in 5 major African regions
2) Poster session
3) Conversation Hour with Keynote Speakers
4) Young Scholar Forums that will lead to formation of a network
5) a Botanical Garden Tour and Learning Picnic lunchtime event, with a Cultural Extravaganza
prepared by the University of Buea Educational Psychology graduate students in a beach setting in Limbe, will add a special emic touch to the conference.

Given that English-speaking and French-speaking African scholars seldom meet in the same scientific forum,we see the most innovative component of this 4th Conference as the participation of the French-speakingcommunity, alongside their English-speaking peers. Accordingly, we foresee parallel French language sessions with the conventional English language sessions. Finally, the conference will be organized to culminate in agroundbreaking publication on cross-cultural research in psychology. An IACCP Business Meeting will also
take place.
