Working with Webforms

If you have tried to add a user to the site, you will have already encountered the Registration Form. I mention this because this is not a webform. This is built into the CMS and deals specifically with user registration and management. You can't use it for anything else.

However, in this site we have at least 5 webforms not including the Contact form. They are listed in http://www.alternative.ac.nz/admin/content/webform and include the following:

  • Mailing List
  • Annual Subscription Form
  • Back Issue Order Form
  • Three Year Subscription Form
  • Suggest and Event

They provide a means for users - registered as well as unregistered - to provide information to the site, such as email addresses, subscription preferences and events.

Trying out the Mailing List form

  1. Click on Mailing List in the Webforms page and fill in your email address
    • You can also just type in your email address in the Mailing List panel in the right column
  2. Click Submit and you will be thanked for subscribing to the Mialing List.
  3. Return to the Webforms page and click on the Table link in the Mailing List row
  4. You will see that the email address you entered has now appeared on the table.

The webforms page also provides us with the ability to analyse, download, and clear submisions for each webform.

Editing the Mailing List form

Though it would be ill-advised, you can also edit the webform. You should only make relatively minor changes, such as changing the confirmation messages or email settings.

  1. Click on the Edit link in the Mailing List row on the Webforms page
  2. If you are logged in, you can also use the Edit link in http://www.alternative.ac.nz/mailing-list
  3. This will bring up the Configuration settings page where you can make your edits
    • Click Submit when you're done
  4. Clicking on Form Components will bring up a list of fields used in the form
    • In this case only the email type form is visible
  5. Additional form components can be added by toggling on the drop down menu in the Type column and clicking on Add.
    • For now, leave this as is.
  6. Click Submit when you're done
