AlterNative: An International Journal of Indigenous Peoples is a multidisciplinary peer-review journal. It aims to present Indigenous worldviews from native Indigenous perspectives.
AlterNative is dedicated to the analysis and dissemination of native Indigenous knowledge that uniquely belongs to cultural, traditional, tribal and aboriginal peoples as well as first-nations, from around the world. It spans themes of origins, place, peoples, community, culture, traditional and oral history, heritage, colonialism, power, intervention, development and self-determination.Commentary Submissions
AlterNative welcomes short timely commentaries on critical issues concerning Indigenous peoples. These are insightful pieces that are normally between 2000-3500 words long, including references.
Commentaries must include a 100-150 word abstract.
Submissions must be made through our online submissions system, which asks for all author details, a word count and suggested peer reviewers. Hard copy submissions cannot be accepted.
Authors are asked submit commentaries in the correct format, including the APA referencing style. Please download and read the Author Guidelines.
All articles must be original. The work cannot have been previously published in the same form nor can its substance be drawn from previously published books or articles. Submissions to AlterNative must not be under consideration in any form by other publisher(s).
All articles submitted to the journal are sent to peer reviewers for evaluation. The editors will use these reviews in making a decision on your paper. They may decide to ask you to revise your paper in line with referee suggestions. All authors should be prepared to return revised papers and proof corrections to the deadlines required for publication.
Authors will be required to sign a Contributors Agreement for Publishing before publication.
One print copy of the issue containing the article will be supplied free of charge to the author. In cases where there are more than two authors, one issue will be supplied to the principal author. Electronic PDFs of each article will also be available.
